Freeing your Body from the Mind
For the woman who is tired of holding it all together.
Why does our mind hold so much power over our body?
The mind loves to protect us. It believes it's doing a great job — and in many ways, it is. But for so many of us, that protection becomes control. We end up living as trapped inside our own bodies, tangled in limiting beliefs and thoughts, cut off from sensations and the ability to experience freedom in who we are.
I believe the mind works so hard to keep us from feeling vulnerable because it fears we might ‘fall apart’ if we let ourselves feel too much. But that protection is often only a band-aid. What doesn't get felt doesn't disappear — it gets stored in the body, layered in with all the other grief, exhaustion and pain which has been too much to face.
So, we're left to ask:
What happens when we finally allow ourselves to feel our deeply vulnerable and painful feelings?
What does it look like when we let ourselves live from the body's experience?
Will ‘fall apart’ and be unsafe if we let ourselves feel the sensitivity coming from the body?
In the somatic process work I do with clients, I sit with so many women caught in an endless conflict between body and mind. The body feels everything so deeply. The mind wants to protect, distracted, and avoid in order to feel safe.
I see this as the same conflict that plays out in the relationship between the masculine and the feminine dynamic. The mind reflects the protective, driving nature of the masculine. The body reflects the deeply felt, receptive nature of the feminine.
I believe we can heal this masculine/feminine conflict — the one so many relationships struggle with — by turning inward first. By developing a deeper awareness of the battle happening within us, between mind/body and masculine/feminine inner qualities.
This inner awareness takes time to build. It asks us to slow down and notice how we actually treat ourselves on the inside — whether we allow ourselves to feel our experience fully, or whether we keep pushing feelings aside and burying them under distraction and avoidance.
If you are a woman feeling emotionally overwhelmed, exhausted, or burnt out — this is for you.
The invitation is simple, even if it doesn't feel easy: slow down and listen to your body.
Your body already knows what you need. It knows what you deeply desire, in every moment of every day. It is the mind — stubborn, well-meaning, endlessly busy — that resists the listening. That resists the slowing down. That keeps insisting you DO more and BE more, even when you're running on empty.
To find peace, harmony and balance again, the first step is simply to listen — to your body's instinctive urges, its natural desires, its quiet requests for rest.
So many of us have carried a quiet guilt or shame around slowing down, around following pleasure, around letting ourselves simply desire something for no other reason than that it feels good.
Inner peace, pleasure and deep rest already live within us. But we do have to free ourselves from the mind’s controlling nature. As women, we can live a life in alignment with our joy, pleasure and desires.
To begin this journey back to our joy, pleasure and vitality, we first need to start listening to the wise woman that lives inside you.
Please reach out if you ‘desire’ support to reclaim yourself as an embodied woman.
